Dream Warrior
It was this piercing scream that woke Romy up from a deep comatose sleep. He looked around to find Sala on the floor beside the bed wrestling with an invisible assailant. He learned from previous sleep terrors not to wake her. He had become somewhat accustomed to these nightmares but they were becoming more frequent. Her body told the story of the violence she encountered. Multiple bruises on her legs and scratches on her upper body resulted from these dream fights that carried real life pain. Romy placed pillows around her to form a protective barrier. Once he’d secured her, he grabbed his phone. He found the music. A song she gave him to help safely awaken her. He placed the phone near her ear and let the music do its work. Gradually, Sala stopped fighting. Romy studied her eyelids, noting the decreased activity of her eyeballs. He held her wrist to monitor her pulse. The slowing of its thump told him she’d soon come to. Without worry, he lovingly waited for her, stroking her palm, gently guiding her to wakefulness.
