THEY NOT CHECKING FOR ME, I'M NOT CHECKING FOR THEM
Long ago, I discarded the notion that politicians represent me and my interests. My experience has taught me the contrary. Officials elected to legislate on my behalf inevitably act in their own best interest. They enact laws and policies that benefit their cronies and campaign contributors. They promote agendas that most likely lead to their re-election or promotion to a higher office. What I want or need or what my neighbors want or need are subordinated to what they want or need. To the extent that my interests align with theirs, I may get a residual benefit like a tax break or boost to small business. However, I am mindful that while the right hand gives, the left takes away. So that tax break will come with mandates that erase any individual economic gains. Or that boost to small business will be tied to reductions in education spending. The united states of smoke and mirrors. That’s what we really have here. A political system based on greed and sustained by great marketing. It looks great on paper but the reality is something quite different....
