Power and Influence. Overstand?

Understanding the power of influence helps to overstand the role mass media plays in shaping thought and directing behavior. I grew up, like most seventies babies, watching an unhealthy amount of television. Without question, those hours spent passively intaking images and messaging definitely molded my early ideas about America as an institution, Blackness as a state of being and the value of being born female. Were it not for natural curiosity and books that excited my critical thinking, I may have been lost to the subliminal programming enmeshed in TV show, movies, commercials, print ads and music. All of these forms of media operate to establish a certain kind of reality. It is this reality that is problematic for Afrakans.
